10 Ancient Sites

Cretan history goes back to Neolithic times, and very significantly the Minoans of the Bronze Age. they were followed by ancient Greeks and then the Romans. The island is littered with ancient sites, cities, towns and shrines. Often identified only by being roped off, you will discover them in the most unlikely places, by beaches and in towns.
Crete has some of the most impressive ancient sites out side of the Middle East, often incredibly well preserved having lain lost in mythology until being unearthed in the 19th or 20th century.
